South Carolina's legislators really did a lot to improve their state's image this week.

I don't think you researched the issue enough. Before this gained any publicity and the reporter talked to Altman, this bill for demostic violence was going to be reintroduced. It was originally taken off the table due to pork being attached to it. Now I think Altman obviously spoke too harshly, but I think you are creating a strawman to knock down here. I was born and raised in Philly and lived there for 25 years. Ive been in SC for 10, trust me, there is alot Philly could learn.

wow -- you're right, if I'd read the article that you attached, I'd have been even more outraged! I just thought that the legislators were making (poorly chosen but not malicious) light of domestic violence; I didn't know that they were blaming the victims too!
"I do not understand why women continue to go back around men who abuse them," Rep. John Graham Altman III, R-Charleston, said Tuesday in the interview on WIS-TV. "I've asked women that, and they all tell me the same answer: 'John Graham, you don't understand.' And I say, 'You're right, I don't understand.'"
It's like time has stood still for decades...
great that they may reintroduce the bill, but you're not going to convince me that the guys in these three stories are going to be enlightened in the process. put this "I just don't understand" together with the previous "You're not very bright" comment, and I'm pretty sure I never want to be in the same room with Altman. the waves of misogyny would probably knock me down.
