Apparently the U.K. is looking to improve road safety by letting Big Brother drive your car for you -- not content to photograph light-runners or ticket speeders, they are testing out a system that actually
applies the brakes if you are going too fast. The trial is voluntary (participants pay less of a "congestion fee" for entering crowded cities), but it involves modification of the cars and "smart technology" to compare GPS info with known local speed limits and the like.
The DfT says it has no plans to make speed limiters mandatory but admits that it is considering creating a digital map of all Britain’s roads which would pave the way for a national ISA system.
Yes, that makes me feel much better...
